Is anyone here worried about catching this awful virus? I am freaking out as I am 60 a smoker, and have underlying health issues, I am terrified of suffocating to death and have started to stay indoors. I have a part time job that I might lose if I continue like this.....it feels like the end of the world.....

@anneboleyn Hello anneboleyn, I'm sorry you're feeling so worried. Your feelings are certainly understandable, those with underlying health conditions or who are immunocompromised are at higher risk of falling ill in general.

I have created a general discussion on COVID-19 for everyone to share their thoughts and advice, and I have included a few important government links with reliable and up-to-date information:

Coronavirus (COVID-19) - information and precautions

Rest assured that if you have not been in contact with someone with coronavirus, have not travelled in an affected area, and take extra care to frequently wash your hands for 20 seconds using soap and hot water and to cover your mouth with your sleeve when you cough or sneeze, you should be able to keep the virus at bay.

Take care,

Michael

@Tigger.co.uk Hello Tiger, I think many of us understand your feeling on this. Regarding your trip, it may be a good idea to follow news and government updates to make your decision. There is a handy government site for foreign travel advice where you can click on or search for the name of the destination you're planning to visit and see whether the government deems it safe or not to carry ahead with your trip. I'll include the link for you here:

Gov.UK - Foreign travel advice

Take care,

@Tigger.co.uk Hello Tiger, if you haven't seen already, I'm the new community manager here for Carenity UK.

That's a pity for your trip, it sounds like a lovely birthday treat. I would an eye on the news and use your best judgment, as you mentioned. This site here is updated daily by the government and gives a fairly accurate estimation of confirmed cases in each part of England:

Number of coronavirus (COVID-19) cases and risk in the UK

All the best,

Courtney

I'm very worried apart from arthritis I have COPD and pulmonary fibrosis which is scarring of the lungs I tend to catch things very easily. Also I am 72 I also have mental health issues I've been staying inside due to me coming down with a cold which almost always leads to a chest infection

I'm worried I have type 1 diabetes and ckd stage 3 I'm only 39 so I'm hoping this is a plus. I'm not able to work from home and now they are saying on the news to stay in for 12 weeks which isn't really feasible. What's your advice?

@Bonyrose @captain06‍ Hello, thank you for commenting. If you haven't seen already, yesterday we posted an article breaking down the coronavirus and providing the latest updates and sources to consult. I'll link it here:

Coronavirus: What do you need to know?

@captain06‍ The NHS and the Prime Minister have recommended that everyone limit contact with others (social distancing) where possible, especially if you have a prior condition or a weakened immune system. While working from home is not yet mandatory, it is strongly advised. I would recommend that you speak with you employer to see what plans they are putting in place and with your GP to see what he or she recommends.

Take care,

Courtney
