They would have had to stop your Diazepam. It suppresses seizures which the ECT is obviously trying to induce. Getting off a benzodiazepine like Diazepam can give withdrawal symptoms for a good while. It could be that the ECT didn't work and your depression and anxiety are re-asserting themselves. There are alternatives for anxiety other than Diazepam it would be a good idea to discuss these with your doctor,
I have never tried ECT. I have had epilepsy since I was a kid. After years avoiding seizures I wasn't about to voluntarily sign up for 12.

Thanks SteveW, I am going to speak to my doctor, I contacted my CPN on Friday so I'm hoping she can have a word with my psychiatrist about the anxiety. The ECT has worked for me in the past but I had never been offered maintenance ECT until now, so I'm hoping this is the answer to the depression and I do find an alternative to the Diazepam for the anxiety. Thanks for your advice.

Hi all, I suffer with depression and was recently in hospital, I had E.C.T. but before I had the treatment I had to come off Diazepam, since coming home I have been very anxious and at the end of my tether, anybody had similar experience?
