Hi everyone,

When you’re in a depressive episode, even the smallest tasks, like brushing your teeth or showering, can feel overwhelming. This is something so many people experience, but few talk about openly.

  • What’s helped you stay on top of hygiene during tough periods?
  • Do you use reminders, support from others, or self-compassion strategies?
  • What advice would you give to someone struggling with this now?

I take care of myself fairly well when I have to go out to work or see friends, but it shows up on days off when I have nowhere to be and the silence sets in. I don’t change the kitty litter, the dishes pile up, and I honestly can’t remember the last time I vacuumed under the bed. It’s not that I want to live this way, I just don’t think I have the energy for any of it anymore.

It's not about hygiene for me, but more motivation I would say. Going out whe I was younger meant wearing pretty clothes, doing my fancy makeup but now I just can't bring myself to mak an effort because what is the point. I don't feel good on the inside why bother looking good on the outside.
