How are you today?
Following our latest article about the first signs of breast cancer (What are the first signs of breast cancer?), I thought I would open this discussion to talk about breast cancer symptoms!
Breast cancer symptoms may vary from person to person, but typically include:
- A lump in the breast or armpit
- Deformation of the breast (dimpling of the skin, swelling, inverted nipple)
- Constant breast or nipple pain
- Change in pigmentation or texture of the breast skin or areola
- Abnormal discharge from the nipple
What about you? What type(s) of symptoms did you experience before you were diagnosed? Did you have any of the symptoms listed above, or something else?
Feel free to share with us here!
@Courtney_J I actually didn't have any symptoms! I went in for a routine check (multiple women in the family have had it or died from it) and it was the doctor who noticed a spot that looked funny. I'm almost glad it went that way and that I didn't have any of the usual signs, I think that woud have been too much for me.
I had a chest infection and if it hadn't of been for a general practitioner sending me for a ct xray on my chest then I wouldnt have known I had breast cancer as the x ray found 2 lumps in both of my breasts my right breast they could drain but unfortunately my left breast they couldnt ,I had a biopsy they sent it away and I was told I had breast cancer I could have had just the lump removed but there was a chance of it comming back so the next choice was to remove the breast and have a complete mastectomy, which I did ,I then was told that I had to have 6 weeks of radiotherapy, and after the six weeks I was put on letrazole but that made me feel really poorly so they changed that to anastrozole every day for six weeks I had to get up early morning and travel by car 43 miles away to have my radiotherapy first I had a booster they laid me down on the machine bed put some kind of skin taped it down and measured where the radiation was going to go but they had to be reallycarefulas my lump that they removed was underneath my breast bone very close to my heart then I just laid there till they had finished at first I was very sore the oncologist gave me some cream and liquid to put on to cool it down at first I was very scared was crying but the radiographer was fabulous it was a very scary time ,before my radiotherapy after my operation I came home with a drain put in that was really scary as I was scared in case I pulled it out they put the drain bag in a sling that I could carry and that wasnt removed till 5 weeks later I hated it now after my radiotherapy i rang a bell when it was all finished but then i was scared because i didn't t have that shoulder to lean on anymore that's when i felt tired and really drained if it hadn't of been for my family and friends i wouldnt have coped ,it still is hard i now suffer with lymphoedema and emphysema, and my PTSD low moods depression and anxiety has got worse ,i have been clear for 3 yrs but i am still scared today of it comming back Tigger
