Breast cancer

Breast cancer is a disease that mainly affects women. It occurs when cells start reproducing out of control due to mutations and eventually forms a tumor of infected cells. It can quickly spread to the lymph nodes in the underarm and from there it has free access to the rest of the body. Therefore it is necessary to catch it as soon as possible to avoid spreading of the cancerous cells.

I have breast cancer

Being diagnosed with breast cancer usually comes as a shock, both for the patient and their surroundings. A diagnose with a potentially lethal condition is devastating and causes incredible amounts of stress. Furthermore, breast cancer may be a particularly sensitive condition to women, since it involves one of the most important symbols of femininity ; the breast. There can be many questions throughout the process of coping with and understanding the condition and as a patient you may find it helpful to talk to other patients about your options and dilemmas. What are the pro's and con's of removing/ keeping the breast, how do you cope with living with only one breast, should you have breast reconstruction ? You can get help with dealing with these thoughts and most important of all... You can talk to people who understand why these thoughts are important at the Breast Cancer Forum.
