Hi, I have just been diagnosed with COPD , I have struggled since oct thinking it was ashma. I have been given the right inhaler now so hopefully I will start to see a difference in my health. I have never smoked and so was bewildered as to why I have this . I don't know anything about it and so any advice will be gratefully received. My doctor gave me some internet sites and I have sent for some information.

but I think that's do do with this illness he falls a sleep in the day time but hes on the go all the time i just wonder where he gets his energy from he has good days & bad days but just recently hes had more bad days than good

I have had COPD for 19 years. I believe acid reflux was a contributor & living with a smoker. I exercise till I am short of breath & my instructor told me "do not sit down when you are short of breath, That makes your pelvis compact your lungs, instead, if you can, stand & lean sideways to the left and then to the right." It sounded silly but she was right.

I am 75 and have improved my lung function, by taking short walks throughout the day, totalling 3 miles daily (I wear a fitbit but a pedometer from Argos is less than £5) and go to rehabilitation classes twice a week. I feel better now than I did 10 years ago, so keep pushing the boundarys. You can make improvement.

My wife is nearing the end of life with chronic copd in and out of hospital 32times this last year alone she cannot walk or do anything at all in a wheelchair all the time how long do you think she's got ??

@Elvis666 Sorry to hear you are going through the end with your wife, no one can predict what will happen next sadly or answer your question. I would suggest you talk to BLF helpline nurses or maybe Macmillan nurses could support you if you don't already have them. They helped me when my husband was terminal, take care.

Katieoxo22 thanks for your kind words my wife back in hospital this am.She goes to hospice once a week which is a great help.Not involved with MacMillan nurses so far but will make enquiries regards

@Elvis666, that is good about the hospice, not so good about return to hospital. Some hospitals have Macmillan nurses on site might be worth asking if only to give you support. Take care

hi i wonder if anyone out there has r/h as well as c.o.p.d. i have to take humira injections every two weeks to surpres my immune system i end up getting a lot of chest infections one after the other,i live bye the sea so have very good air to breath.

Hi, I have C.o.P. D and find the inhalers useless too, It's not too bad most of the time, but I do keep getting chest infections that barely clear up before I get the next one.

Still fighting to maintain the best quality of life. I have just been changed from Spireva to Anoro. So far so good. Notice one of the side effects is a dry mouth.

i find a swish of water round my mouth lessens this. Why is no one ever told to take water after an inhaler? Hi

Hi Scotty2, you are right doctors and nurses do not routinely advise on water after inhaler. However times are changing and this is being given as general advice by medics including the chemist, think it should appear on patient information leaflets myself, as lots of people do not realise the need to rinse after inhaling to prevent dry mouth and throat problems like hoarse voice.
