After nearly a year of being very withdrawn. I realised I could lose family members if I didn’t explain how depression affects me. I arranged a meeting to explain myself. It was a very lonely experience ...  and much as I was met with grace, two words keep resonating loud and clear - Compassion Fatigue! Anybody any ideas on how to process this term in a positive manner!

@Poppicat Hello, I found it very difficult to explain to my family and friends what I was going through. Perhaps you need to go to counselling too? Once you tell your family and friends then you will feel relieved and probably surprised at their encouragement and support.

Best of luck x

Hi, Thanks for asking. I still feel those two words ringing. As I have always tried to be honest but without being a burden. I am now on medication... which I didn’t want to do... however I’ve managed to get a counsellor and am challenging some of the issues. I fear now at my age I will always have to depend on medication which saddens me. But I do feel a bit more in control and that depression is beginning to have slightly less control of me. It’s a dreadful thing depression. The stigma is still so isolating. I purchased a pup last year and am hopefully going to get her into therapy dog training. She has already achieved the criteria and has done over a hundred hours in community services... and has 4 references! This is changing my life slowly and is the only good thing to come out of such a cruel disease. 🙂
