GAD (Generalised anxiety disorder) is quite a common condition that is characterised by constant uncontrollable worrying, fears, nervousness, etc.

Emotional symptoms that are caused by GAD can also provoke physical symptoms like fatigue, muscle tightness, insomnia, and even stomach problems, diarrhea, etc.

This discussion is dedicated to people suffering with general anxiety disorder, so that they could exchange their experiences and help each other learn to manage the disease better.

To get you started, tell us at what age you were diagnosed? What were the signs? What were the solutions offered by your medical team? Were they of help?

Thank you all in advance for sharing and hope you will find it useful!

This is my first entry so not sure if I'm in the right place or using the site correctly. :-(

At the moment I feel anxious all the time. I'm thinking of reducing my hours at work but don't want to replace the stress at work with stress worrying about money even though I know I could manage - crazy I know!

I can't motivate myself to do anything and though I don't feel suicidal I'm not really bothered if I wake up or not.

I've tried to talk to a couple of friends but they don't get it and I don't want to hurt people closer to me.

I brought my son up alone and did a teaching degree to support us and make sure he wasn't worse off because we were alone.

He is now at uni and I am alone again. I am so worn out with making all my own decisions and having no special person or anyone to share responsibilities with and I miss my son so much even though he's now in his last year. I haven't really got used to it.

I feel so helpless

Hi D, you are not alone in feeling like this, I work full time, bought up a family, I’m divorced but got my own place, struggle with money like everyone but im used to it.  I used to be laid back, organised and made an effort, now I struggle getting up, some days I feel like you, wish somedays I wouldn’t wake up, the only thing keeping me going is my kids, I’ve taken too much pain killers on a couple of occasions and wished it would end, but I woke up feeling fine, and regretting it, I’m on anti depressants now and after taking them a few months now, they’ve been a godsend, still have bad days but the dark cloud has lifted, don’t give up, you are special in this life, try to make the most of it, it doesn’t last long, try and put things into perspective, I know it’s hard, but you are not alone.

Thank you. It is good to share with someone who understands. Like you I used to be so different but now I seem to have lost all myself worth and  any relationships go wrong so I give up. I've just started taking anti depressants again so hopefully that will help.

Your children are lucky to have a dedicated mum who cares for them despite her own struggles. You keep strong too. You are needed and very much loved by your children.

I guess we are more valuable and tougher than we realise when you think of all we survived and achieved. We should both try to see and focus on our worth.

@denvau‍ Anxiety can cause so many issues, but I admire you for bringing up your son on your own... Any parent bringing up a child alone is hard work, but remember your son loves you and by attending University he is attempting to make a better life for himself and you in the end.

Have you ever thought of going to social media, i.e. Facebook or Twitter, to join a few Anxiety and Stress groups? There you can find friends, discuss more problems and find answers to some of the issues you raised.

Keep strong and positive; life goes on!

Thank you, Les.

I am so proud of him and he is so conscientious and caring.

Your words are very thoughtful and I really appreciate you getting in touch.

I'll try to find some of those groups and give them a go.

Take care x

Denise

@denvau‍ If you are on Facebook, feel free to send me a Friend Request... I am an Admin for a Stress and Anxiety Group which you might like to join... I can add you into the group once we are connected up.

@Helen79‍ Please feel free to do the same as above.

It would be easier if you send me personal messages and give me proper names etc. to find you both if on Facebook.

Keep well and positive!
