I had no idea either, I have acid reflux too and hadn't put it together. It's funny how the body works. I'd be interested to know why/how they're related. Does anyone know?

Acid reflux and COPD are a bit like chicken and egg. I don’t know which started first but I had reflux way before my COPD was diagnosed and I think inhaling the acid was the main contributor. I never smoked, though doctors look cynical about that!
Ppi’s stop the acid, but over time also stop you absorbing nutrients from your food. Catch 22.
A chiropractor gave me a tip. Take two fingers and place them approximately two fingers down from your breast bone. Push in and count five, move the fingers up a little and again push in and count five, then move your fingers about two finger widths from the original position and push in and count five. Do this up to twenty consecutive times. To begin with you will probably be tender after only a few. Stop then, repeat next day gradually increasing the number. Do this exercise firmly but without undue pressure. You are putting gentle pressure on the oesophagus which will already be inflamed, so it will take time, go easy, be kind to yourself.
Different things work for different people, if it doesn’t work for you, keep looking. There are answers so keep asking the questions.

I have Omeprazole and Gaviscon for my Acid reflux and it (sometimes ) helps my COPD. My Respiratory doctor prescribed or suggested the Gaviscon, but my GP gave me the Omeprazole for a sliding Hiatus Hernia!
My COPD Nurse (who I bless daily!) suggested taking the Gaviscon before bed!!

I do appologise for joing this group, I thought this was an acid reflux group. I do not have COPD. But I do have problems with acid reflux. But this comment is good for everything that happens in our lives.. We need to eat correctly, do excerise and try not to be stressed. The best way is to become aware of cause and effect (thought, action and deed) in our lives and how we can change our suffering into enlightenment, The Lotus Sutra, easiest English translation by Burton Watson. Nichiren Shoshu Buddhism. This is not outside of our lives.

Hi all
Have been reading a couple of articles about the link between copd and gastric reflux. Apparently 78% of people with copd also have gastric reflux, myself included. Also the reflux can trigger an exacerbation? Anyone else noticed that their breathing is affected when they have indigestion?
