I am now post mastectomy 8 weeks. I went for what I thought was assessment for radiotherapy was told they couldn't start as I hadn't had a bone scan .also my surgeon hadn't started me on oestragen blocking meds , the care I have had has been very disjointed

Have you asked when the scan will be and when you start the tablets? They should have planned treatment with - operation- tablets- scan - radiotherapy. You need to press them for dates and times.

P.s had results Friday im her2 positive appantley they knew this in the beginning from blood tests. Now this means i hav e to have chemotherapy and radiotherapy and hercepten treatment as well. !! The breast nurse specialist told me in the beginning i woukdnt need both as its a small opp and they caught it earlry. But my surgon said the nurse was wrong to of told that. Its what they call a primary cancer grade 2 invasive ductal cancer and can spread . Feel so lost now all my plans are gone out the window now . Sat here no sleep for the last few weeks well little bits . Crying feel so alone and scarred . Sorry

Ok Helen let’s look at the positive. It is primary cancer grade two - there could be a lot worse as in Grade three or four.

i had triple negative grade two but a three in the two because it was triple negative. This means I had to have chemotherapy and radiotherapy. Yes it is not a pleasant six months you have ahead of you but once the treatment is finished that should be it. You will be having chemo I presume because your cancer is not hormonal.

i live by myself - I had the support of two sisters and friends but at times you do feel alone and frightened. That is bound to happen. Set yourself targets for the day - small ones - and get through the treatment. Gradually you will begin to feel once again that there is enjoyment in life and be proud with every step you take. You are not alone. All best wishes on your journey.

I was told by my consultant that the advice to stay positive is not good advice. This is because everybody at times feels down and everybody at times feels positive. This is natural and to pressurise yourself in to thinking that you must be positive all the time is wrong. Try to focus on the simple things - getting through that day- walking so far- even if only to the bottom of the garden path- look at the blossom- read some info - I even did an on line course - concentrated on feeding the cat - and doing big jobs like changing the bed - in stages even on different days some times. Concentrate on the small things of life and as I said- be kind to yourself.

Thanks margaret . ... ive meeg with my surgon on friday im having 6 sessions of chemotherapy one every 3 weeks also hercepten then 15 days of radiotherapy hormone tablets for 5 to 10 years ....so much going on still no date yet when to start x

I was diagnosed with grade 3 primary breast cancer in Oct 2019. Had a lumpectomy Nov 6th, biopsy showed not in lympnodes, they recommend I have 6 sessions of chemo, which I decided to take, first session I ended up with sepsis, in hospital for 5 days, went for second round of chemo, quess what, got sepsis again in hospital for 7 days with 22 bags of antibiotics drips. The oncologist sister said, the negatives are out weighing the benefits, my body couldn’t take another sepsis. Had to stop the chemo. My radatation starts on Monday. I will keep you updated.
