I was diagnosed several months ago through symptoms I have bern having for over 2 years and the result of my MRI. My neurologist decided after diagnosis to send me for a lumber puncture as he stated the MS clinic would want it done.
He rang me today to say lumber puncture was clear and although he thinks it is defenetly MS the MS clinic may oppose his diagnosis. I am left very confused and upset. I have had symptoms for over 2 years and my diagnosis came as a kind of a relief if that make sense. On neurologists advice I have informed work, DVLA told my family etc now I feel like a hypochondriac. My neurologist give me my diagnosis in writing. Has anyone else experienced this or had an MS diagnosis with a clear lumber puncture.
@Bern50 Hello Bern50, thank you for starting this discussion. I'm sorry you're feeling upset, receiving a new and possibly unclear diagnosis can be hard to process. Let me tag some member who may be able to share their experience with you and provide a little clarity.
Hello member, I hope you don't mind that I've tagged you. Have any of you had an experience similar to Bern50's? Have you heard of a positive diagnosis for MS with a normal lumbar puncture? Can you share any insights with us?

@Bern50 I too was diagnosed(2years ago) with a negative lumbar puncture.
I'd had symptoms for several years and lesions on brain scan.I questioned as to was it definitely MS due to the scan results and was told yes it was.
Hope this helps.Take care.
Thank you for replay. My neurologist is saying defo MS but the MS clinic may query it as lumbar puncture clear and because I'm 50.
@Bern50 I'm nearly 50 as well.Im lucky enough that my hospital has a specialist Ms centre of excellence.
Not all cases have positive lumbar puncture results.keep on asking questions until you get the answers you need.Use your GP as well as hospital staff. It took me a while with lots of tests to rule out anything else but in the end I got the answers..albeit not the happiest of one's.
