Hi everyone,

Living with multiple sclerosis (MS) can change many aspects of daily life, but one of the hardest parts is knowing how (and when) to talk about it with others. Whether you're opening up to family, friends, or colleagues, those first conversations can bring up anxiety, doubt, and hesitation. You might worry about being misunderstood, pitied, or even ignored. But speaking openly can also bring connection and relief.

  • How did you first tell your loved ones about your MS diagnosis?
  • Did you use any specific strategies to prepare or guide the conversation?
  • How did people react, and how did you handle those emotions?

Hi everyone,

My sister has MS and I remember when she first told the family. It was very emotional for all of us, and I think she was worried about how we would react. She didn’t want us to see her differently. For me it was also difficult because I didn’t really know what to say at first, but I just tried to listen and be there for her. Over time we’ve learned to talk about it more naturally, especially when she’s having a harder day with fatigue or stiffness.

Only my closest near and dear family was told, the rest are informed on a need to know basis. I have no interest in people making a big fuss about it for no reason.
